Nathan Lee Montez Jr. Memorial Scholarship

The Nathan Montez, Jr. Scholarship was established in loving memory of our son, Nathan.

Nathan had dreams and made plans for his future, and he saved money for what was ahead. After his passing, our family reflected on how best to honor that hope. His brothers chose to turn Nathan’s savings into something lasting by creating scholarships for graduating seniors at J. Frank Dobie High School, and they committed to contributing additional funds in honor of their baby brother.

Nathan was a bright, kind, and dedicated student who cared a lot about others. He had a way of making people feel seen and valued. With these scholarships, we hope to extend that same sense of care to graduating seniors and affirm that they matter and that their lives are important.

His story reminds us that mental health challenges can touch anyone and don’t always look the way we expect. They can exist even in those who seem joyful, supported, and full of promise. Through short reflections and essays, students are invited to share their thoughts on community, compassion, and supporting one another’s mental well-being. Our hope is not only to award a scholarship, but also to encourage kindness, understanding, and the courage to reach out.

With your support, the Blue Bee Project ensures Nathan’s compassion continues to ripple outward by inviting young people to do kind things, just as Nathan would.
